about the Ed Wards Project
Art can change everything and a person's creative process will guide them, in their own time and in their own way. The Ed Wards Project was inspired by Nebraska wildlife artist Charlotte Edwards. In her memory, Charlotte’s family wanted to help fund art education at West Nebraska Arts Center. Charlotte began painting at the age of 27 with very limited supplies using a window shade, 10 cent brushes, and paint she begged from the local lumberyard. The pseudonym Ed Wards started because she thought it was a cute and clever play on her name. As she became more aware of the realities of being a female painter in a man’s world, she decided to continue to use the signature Ed Wards. It is a symbol of her desire to show them what a woman could accomplish.
Her wildlife artwork continued to evolve as she used her own photography as reference and raised turkeys, pheasants, quail, ducks to study the details of the animals she was painting. This class will cover several different artists of the past and their techniques. We hope to awaken a artic style that is unique and special to the artists that come. It’s a drop - in class but we do encourage attending every session because students then build up on what they are creating .
